Press Release
1st March 2023
Rapport, Compass Group UK & Ireland’s guest services business, is teaming with ComXo, the professional service sector switchboard specialist, to celebrate the work done by professional telephonists on National Telephonists’ Day – Friday 10th March 2023.
Rapport and ComXo are calling on organisations and individuals to engage with their employees and colleagues, taking the opportunity to recognise the work of telephonists and shining a light on these team members who sometimes go unnoticed.
This year’s celebration will be the 10th National Telephonists’ Day, marking the 147th anniversary of the first ever telephone call made by Alexander Graham Bell on the 10th March 1876.
To celebrate the initiative, Rapport and ComXo are planning activities via the dedicated website, www.nationaltelephonistsday.com that is open to all. There are two competitions that anyone can enter this year, where individuals can write their own slogan or create a tasty dish!
Dirk Talsma, Managing Director of Rapport, commented: “We are really looking forward to celebrating the tenth National Telephonists’ Day this year. Once again, we are raising the profile of professional telephonists across all industries.
The day is the anniversary of the very first phone call ever and a brilliant opportunity to recognise all call service teams and operatives for the fantastic work that they do daily. I am incredibly proud of the flexibility and professionalism of our switchboard and call services teams, who consistently rise to the challenge of this fast-changing industry.
I know that there are many industries across the UK who have relied on their Telephonists to do the same and National Telephonists’ Day is a great opportunity to shine a spotlight on their important work and achievements”.
Andrew Try, Managing Director of ComXo, commented: “Being a telephonist at ComXo is not about answering the phone… that is just the start of a journey. Supporting the world’s largest and most demanding workforces to enable them to get things done, is a role that takes mental dexterity, patience, lateral thinking, the mastery of complex software and a huge amount of personality. When the public visualise telephonists, they often fail to appreciate the value they add to organisations. Many millions of times an hour, across every hour of the day, and every day of the year, telephonists enable our most complex transactions, qualifying worth, prioritising urgency and delivering value outcomes time after time. NTD is our moment to celebrate them and everything they do to make our lives easier and better in every way.”
